Grace Hopper


Background

Grace Hopper was born in New York on December 9, 1906. She died January 1, 1992. Grace Hopper attended Graham School and Schoonmakers School in New York City, which were both all girl private schools. Her original inspiration for joining the military was the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor in WW2. In 1930 she earned a Ma at Yale University and a Phd in 1934.


Why Is This Person Considered a Computer Pioneer?

She was the third person to program the Mark I.She is also a mathematical genius. She also wrote the first computer manual, and was the person with the most knowledge about this 51 foot long, 8 feet wide, 8 feet deep machine.
